Ireland's leading Beef Programme Manager
NCBC’s Rose Goulding to judge Charolais World Championship
NCBC ( The National Cattle Breeding Centre of Ireland) is very proud to announce that Beef Programme Manager, Rose Goulding, has been selected as one of the four judges for the upcoming ‘Charolais Champion of the World’ competition.
The ‘Charolais Champion of the World’ competition is a prestigious international showcase for the Charolais cattle breed. It is a competition focused on finding the single best example of the breed on a global scale.
It is a global competition, featuring finalists from various countries where Charolais cattle are bred, such as Canada, Australia, the USA, and countries across Europe and South America.
It is held annually where winners from various national and regional shows or breed categories are put forward as finalists to compete for the ultimate “Champion of the World” title. There are often separate categories, such as Miss World Charolais (for females) and Charolais Champion of the World (for bulls or overall champions).
The judging is conducted by a panel of international, highly respected official judges who evaluate the animals based on breed standards, conformation, and overall quality.
This year’s judges are as follows:
- William Koury Filho (Brazil)
- Erica Halliday (Australia)
- Rosalish Goulding (Ireland)
- Blake Nelson (USA)
Rose Goulding is a highly respected figure in the Irish beef industry and has been the Beef Programme Manager for NCBC for the past 15 years. In this pivotal role, she is responsible for leading the NCBC’s robust beef breeding program, focusing on identifying, testing, and making available superior beef sires to farmers.
Rose has consistently spearheaded the development of an exceptionally strong and commercially relevant panel of Charolais AI bulls for the NCBC breeding programme.
For example: 5 of the the top 6 Proven Charolais AI Bulls for the ‘Terminal Index’ on the ICBF Active Beef Bull list are from the NCBC Charolais Breeding programme.
‘Recif’ (pictured below), who was bred in France and then imported into Ireland by NCBC is one of these bulls. His Jarret x Hamel x Azelier pedigree makes him a really interesting bull for Irish breeders as well as Breeders elsewhere around the world.
NCBC is recognized for its proactive and strategic approach to sourcing and importing elite, performance-tested young Charolais bulls directly from their native France. Key Strengths of the NCBC Charolais AI Sire panel:
-
Outcross Genetics: A hallmark of the panel is the inclusion of numerous bulls boasting outcross pedigrees. This strategic move is vital for Irish breeders, as it maximizes genetic diversity, helps mitigate issues of inbreeding, and introduces fresh, high-performing bloodlines.
-
Performance Tested Elite Sires: The imported bulls are carefully selected based on rigorous performance testing data from France. This ensures they excel in key economic traits relevant to Irish beef farming, such as growth rate, feed efficiency, and carcass quality.
Rose’s expertise extends to the show ring where she has been selected as a judge for major National and International competitions such as judging the Charolais breed at the Simagena Show in Paris.
Rose is also a very successful Aberdeen Angus Breeder.

NCBC operates the dairy & beef breeding programmes that breed, source and progeny test the beef and dairy bulls whose semen is exclusively available through Progressive Genetics and Munster Bovine in Ireland. Solnua, www.solnua.com was established to market and distribute these same genetics internationally.
