Dr Doreen Corridan Named STEM Woman of the Year 2025 | NCBC

STEM Woman of the Year 2025

We are immensely proud to share that Dr Doreen Corridan, Chief Executive of the National Cattle Breeding Centre (NCBC), has been named STEAM Woman of the Year 2025 — a historic moment for Irish agriculture and a milestone for women in science.

Doreen becomes the first woman from the Irish agri-sector to receive this national honour. The award recognises exceptional leadership in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, and acknowledges the remarkable people who use evidence, innovation, and purpose to shape a better future.

For us at NCBC, this award captures something we see every day:
Doreen’s integrity, her scientific rigour, her tireless advocacy for farmers, and her ability to lead with both heart and precision.

A Transformational Leader for Irish Farming

Dr Corridan’s award reflects her lifelong contribution to the Irish farming industry, particularly in fertility, herd health, and cattle genetics — areas credited with improving both profitability and environmental sustainability on Irish farms.

Under her leadership, NCBC now operates the largest dairy, beef and dairy-beef breeding programme in the country, with genetics used on farms in every county in Ireland, and with the introduction of a new brand for exports, Solnua, Irish genetics are having an impact on farmers globally.   More than 20 million calves have been born in Ireland from NCBC sires since 2005.

A Proud Moment for NCBC and the Farmers We Serve

Doreen’s award comes at a time of exciting change for NCBC, with our new international brand SolnuaBreeding Better Futures — now representing Irish genetics across the world.

Her recognition reinforces what underpins both NCBC and Solnua:

  • evidence-based science

  • collaboration

  • long-term thinking

  • a deep commitment to Irish farmers

  • and a belief that genetics is one of the most powerful tools to secure a low-emissions, profitable future for farming families.

This award belongs to Doreen — but it also reflects the work of every farmer, breeder, technician, and advisor who believes in Irish genetics and what it can deliver.

A Message From Doreen

“I am deeply honoured to receive this award. Irish agriculture is built on science, innovation and community — and I am proud to work alongside extraordinary people every day who believe in progress, sustainability, and supporting the next generation of farmers. This recognition reflects the collective work of our team at NCBC and the trust our shareholders and farmers place in us. Together, we are building a future that is productive, responsible and full of opportunity.”

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

We congratulate Doreen on this hugely deserved achievement.
Her leadership continues to inspire our team, strengthen our programmes, and reinforce Ireland’s position as a global leader in genetics and sustainable agriculture.

Congratulations, Doreen — from everyone at NCBC and Solnua.
