STEM Woman of the Year 2025

We are immensely proud to share that Dr Doreen Corridan, Chief Executive of the National Cattle Breeding Centre (NCBC), has been named STEAM Woman of the Year 2025 — a historic moment for Irish agriculture and a milestone for women in science.

Doreen becomes the first woman from the Irish agri-sector to receive this national honour. The award recognises exceptional leadership in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, and acknowledges the remarkable people who use evidence, innovation, and purpose to shape a better future.

A Transformational Leader for Irish Farming

Dr Corridan’s award reflects her lifelong contribution to the Irish farming industry, particularly in fertility, herd health, and cattle genetics — areas credited with improving both profitability and environmental sustainability on Irish farms.

Under her leadership, NCBC now operates the largest dairy, beef and dairy-beef breeding programme in the country, with genetics used on farms in every county in Ireland, and with the introduction of a new brand for exports, Solnua, Irish genetics are having an impact on farmers globally.   More than 20 million calves have been born in Ireland from NCBC sires since 2005.

Doreen’s award comes at a time of exciting change for NCBC, with our new international brand Solnua— Breeding Better Futures — now representing Irish genetics across the world.
