Mauricio Chile
From 15 Cows to 13 Million Litres
Mauricio Helmrich Von Elgott, an agricultural engineer, began his dairy journey in 1990 with just 15 cows. Today, he owns two farms with 950 cows each, producing 13 million litres of milk annually, with an average fat and protein content of 8.23% and an exceptional efficiency of 1 kilogram of milk solids per kilogram of live weight.

Inspired by Ireland, Focused on Efficiency
After visiting Ireland and NCBC in 2017, Mauricio embraced the goals of Irish farmers: reproductive and productive efficiency, maximising pasture, producing high-quality milk, and achieving a margin per litre that enables reinvestment and growth.
Only seven years after starting with SOLNUA genetics, the results are clear:
“In seven years, I’ve achieved what I couldn’t achieve in a decade using crossbred cattle. Today, I’ve reached conception rates in heifers and cows I never had before. This allows me to organise calving blocks, reduce costs, and maximise milk and solids production.”

Building a Bright Future with SOLNUA
Mauricio’s next target is to exceed 7,500 litres per lactation with 600 kg cows, while sustaining conception rates of 90% in heifers and 80% in cows. For him, the formula is simple:
“The combination of efficient management, technical advice, trained personnel, and SOLNUA makes the future of dairy farmers in southern Chile bright.”
